Netta Architects was retained by the North Hanover Board of Education as the Architect of Record for the new 187,000 SF, $67 million Endeavour Pre-K-4th grade school located on the Joint McGuire Dix Lakehurst Air Force Base.
Netta Architects solved many challenges posed from coordinating a project with the NJ Department of Education, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Department of Defense. One such requirement was the development of open-air courtyards for play and study in lieu of outdoor playgrounds. Netta Architects designed and constructed breakout learning spaces throughout the school, including, tiered seating, and a rooftop terrace. Netta Architects considered safety and security a paramount. Door access controls litter the premises and are equipped with remote emergency lockdown mechanisms. Netta Architects designed the multi-purpose gymnasium/auditorium/cafeteria with separate entrances and a designated parking lot to provide access afterhours, but prohibited access to the rest of the school. A 5,000 SF library/learning center anchors the building and emphasizes the utilization of mobile technologies such as tablets and laptops instead of desktop computers.
The project also incorporated sustainability considerations with living plant walls reside in the Main Atrium Lobby and Second Floor Discovery Center. The school also features: roof mounted solar panels, sensor operated plumbing fixtures with low-flow, and LED lighting throughout the school.
